Warm water, straight from the sun. A longer swim season.
We supply and install solar pool heating, roof mounted AquaMax, Sun Command or UNI EPDM collector panels that use your existing pool pump and an automatic diverter valve to warm the water for free. The sun does the heating, so you swim earlier in spring and later into autumn, with no gas and almost no extra running cost. Sized to your pool and fitted by Pool Pond Spa across the East Rand.
- ☀ The sun warms the water, not your electricity bill
- ♻ Uses the pump and pipes you already have
- ✓ Swim from early spring into late autumn
- ✓ Low maintenance, silent, no moving parts on the roof
South Africa has some of the best sunshine on the planet. Solar pool heating puts it to work.
Free heat, a longer season.
Gas and electric heaters add hundreds of rand a month at swim time. Solar pool heating takes most of that load off, replacing paid power with free heat from above your home.
The heat is free
Once the panels are up, the sun does the work. No gas to buy, no element eating electricity.
Months more swimming
Warmer water from early spring into late autumn, so the pool gets used instead of sitting cold.
Pays itself back
Most owners see the system pay for itself within about three to five summers, then the heat is essentially free.
Your pump and the sun do the work.
Three parts work together: the collector panels on your roof, your existing pool pump that moves the water, and an automatic diverter valve with a controller that sends water to the roof only when there is heat to gain.
Panels go on the roof
We mount UV stable collector panels, ideally facing north for the most sun through the day.
Your pump pushes water up
The pump you already run sends pool water through the panels. No second pump needed on most pools.
The sun warms it
Water passing through the hot panels picks up heat and returns to the pool a few degrees warmer.
The controller decides
A sensor and diverter valve only send water to the roof when it is hotter than the pool, so you never lose heat.
Built for the South African sun.
Three trusted ranges, UV stable and built to take years of full South African sun without cracking.
Panel area matched to your pool surface, so you get real warmth, not a token few degrees.
Set and forget. The system runs the panels only when the sun is giving, with no daily fiddling.
No new pump on most pools. The heat is free and the extra running cost is little to none.
No gas, no flame, no noise. Once it is up it quietly warms the pool in the background.
Panels, valve, controller and pipework installed by our team and pressure tested before we leave.
Sized and quoted for your pool.
We fit three trusted panel ranges, AquaMax, Sun Command and UNI EPDM, sized to your pool. Solar heating is not a one size price, so send us your pool size and a photo of your roof and we will quote you, all supply and install included.
Three panel ranges to choose from
Installed prices are per panel, fitted. Your pool needs a few, sized on the quote, plus the diverter valve, controller and pipework.

Rigid panels last longer. We tell you the truth.
You will see "up to 30 years" thrown around for rubber panels. In full Highveld UV the honest story is shorter, and it is exactly why we fit three ranges and point you to the right one.
Rubber panels are cheaper and forgiving on awkward roofs, but they harden and can shed particulates faster in full Highveld sun. Rigid polypropylene resists chemicals, salt and UV and holds up longer. We fit both and tell you the truth about each, so you choose with your eyes open.
What it does. What it doesn't.
It does this
- ✓ Warms the water several degrees through the day
- ✓ Stretches your swim season into spring and autumn
- ✓ Runs on free sun and your existing pump
- ✓ Works hand in hand with a pool cover
- ✓ Can run alongside a heat pump to cut its cost
It doesn't do this
- ✗ Heat at night or through heavy cloud
- ✗ Give instant on demand heat, that is a heat pump
- ✗ Hold swimming temperature on its own in deep winter
- ✗ Reach its best without a pool cover to hold the heat
- ✗ Work without enough north facing roof space, we check first
FAQ
Does solar pool heating really work in South Africa?
Yes, and it works well. South Africa gets some of the best sunshine on the planet, over 2,500 hours a year in most regions, so a properly sized solar system lifts your pool temperature by several degrees and stretches the swimming season into spring and autumn.
How many panels do I need?
It depends on your pool surface area and how much sun your roof gets. As a rule of thumb the collector area is roughly half to the full size of your pool surface. We measure your pool and roof and recommend the right area on the quote.
Will it heat my pool in winter?
Solar heating shines in spring, summer and autumn. In the coldest, shortest winter days there is not enough sun to hold swimming temperature on solar alone. If you want guaranteed year round heat, a heat pump is the tool, and solar can run alongside it to cut the running cost.
Do I need a pool cover?
We strongly recommend one. Solar heats by day and a cover or blanket holds that heat in overnight instead of letting it escape. A cover roughly doubles what your solar system achieves, so it is the cheapest upgrade you can make.
Does it use a lot of electricity?
No. The heat is free from the sun. The system uses your existing pool pump to push water through the panels, usually during the hours your pump already runs, so there is little or no extra power cost.
What does it cost and how is it quoted?
Solar pool heating is sized per pool, so there is no one size price. We quote on your pool size, roof type and the panel area needed, all supply and install included. Send us your pool size and a photo of your roof for a free quote. Payment is Yoco or EFT.
Can you fit it to my existing pump and pipes?
In most cases yes. The system ties into your existing pump and plumbing with a diverter valve and controller. On the quote visit we check your pump flow and roof run and tell you upfront if anything needs adjusting.
How long does the install take?
Most residential installs are done in a day, depending on roof access and the panel area. We supply and fit the collectors, the diverter valve, the controller and the pipework, then pressure test the system before we leave.
